Blogs > Ryan Taylor's Breakfast Blog Ryan Taylor's Breakfast BlogHi I'm Ryan, im on weekday mornings from 6am for the Star Breakfast, here's the place you'll find all the bits I'll be covering off in the shows.. Thanks for dropping by - Ryan. Going to the Blog in the snow6th February 2012 Going to the Blog in the snow Snow is falling everywhere, children laughing, having fun (ok so I stole that from a Christmas song) in case you didn’t know IT’S SNOWING!- Let’s face it even if you were a prisoner kept to the confides of one room and no window, if you had access to just one social networking site, you could probably guess that the ‘fun for the first five minutes, soon turns into unwanted white stuff’ was laying havoc across the area. Facebook especially turns into the Met office with everyone feeling the need to tell us all it is snowing! Personally I love snow, I love to drive about in it and feel like a rally driver… obviously this is done on a private track on a private piece of land that I own in another country well away from here and at a very slow speed… NOT down my village road playing ‘dodge the wing mirror’s… The only down side I find is that, even though we can physically see snow piled up against the driver’s window, we still feel the need to press the electric window down and then act shocked and hacked off as it all tumbles upon your lap- This catches me out every time! So what’s going on at the moment, well I have just hosted a quiz at Cambridge United with Claudine Bone, which was an experience to say the least… Very funny though!- Well it always is when Claudine is hanging around! I have now been asked to be the host at the ‘May I claim’ Cambridge United match against York in a few weeks… this is essentially another opportunity for me to stand in the middle of a sporting venue, pretend I know what I am talking about and just generally say things that tend to get myself in trouble all for the sake of entertaining football fans... so that should be fun. I have also been asked to host the ‘Archant’ sports awards on the 16th of February in Essex… Don’t know too much about this one yet, but sounds like good fun… I am going to have to dig out my family friendly sporting jokes... hmmm On air, I have some more big competitions coming up including the chance to win a brand new car and a holiday… so make sure you keep listening…. That’s it from me for now; I am off to find a quiet space to catch 40 winks before I head out tonight for a family meal Take it easy Ryan Posted by Ryan at 4:31pm First use of the blog in 20126th January 2012 First use of the blog in 2012 Happy new year and all the shizzle that goes with that! I hope you all win the lottery spend time with the person of your dreams and you all stay healthy and well. So 2012 has got off to an interesting start for me as I have relaunched both myself and the breakfast show. I have started a strict eating and gym plan which as I sit here on day 5 with protein oats still stuck to my lips, I am finding very difficult! For anyone thinking I am on some weird no eating plan, it is quite the opposite; it is all about eating lots of healthy foods and taking on lots of water and protein. Although I consider myself to be fairly fit and healthy, I am like most, fighting with insecurities with my body- YEP! THERE YOU GO I SAID IT! However I would like to point out this is not a vanity trip nor is it an unhealthy obsession, it is purely a desire to get my body toned up and shaped how I would like it… and I am living a healthy fit life along the way, what’s wrong with that? I’ll be honest I got to the 23rd December and looked back at my shows on breakfast since I started in September and I was not happy. I have rarely come away from the shows with a degree of satisfaction that I have performed to the best of my ability… It was time for a change. I effectively relaunched my breakfast show with one set of goals in mind, creative, entertaining, cheeky and letting my mind take over my mouth a bit more freely which is dangerous, although sometimes quite effective. You will need to listen to really notice the effects of the hard work, preparation and creative thinking I am now cramming into 4 important hours of my life, but it has all left me with a totally different feeling about what I am doing on that show! I still do walk away each morning at 10am thinking I could have done more or nailed a link much better than I did, but then I am my own worst critic and that will never change. Take a listen and see what you think, the reaction and feedback I have been getting seems to indicate I might be starting to get it right!!! Take it easy Ryan
Posted by Ryan at 10:40am Use the Blog to start the new-year30th December 2011 In blogs all around the world people are looking back over 2011 and point out the highs and lows. Although my year has been like a bare knuckle roller coaster for the last 365 days, I am not someone who likes to dwell on things that have been done… So instead I say look to the future… As millions prepare themselves for demoralising failures at tasks they have set themselves under the title ‘New year’s resolutions’, I will be planning to enhance my life and set my sights on achieving goals. I have a burning desire to complete any task I set myself so I know that these are not New Year’s resolutions but more of an opportunity for me to reset my little world to think about what I need to do differently in life. I am sick of saying to people in both my personal and professional life that I am too busy so I think it is time to change this. I have goals I want to achieve at the gym and have invested in taking steps to ensure I achieve these goals… Although most of this will just be self discipline. Whatever you decide to change for 2012, if you fear what the outcome will be then let me put this in your mind… ‘A brave man might not live forever, but a coward doesn’t live at all’… I have that tattooed on the inside of my forearm (in Latin) as a reminder to ensure I never forget that. Good luck for everything you wish to achieve in 2012… Oh and I am now at the end of my 3 month probation period on the breakfast show so I think it’s time to get a bit more edgy with the breakfast show… Here goes nothing!!! Ryan Posted by Ryan at 9:56am A drink driving ban made me need the blog12th December 2011 So last Monday I was dropped right in it by the boss of STAR Radio who stormed my breakfast show along with Tony Barrios and Matt Staton from Cambridgeshire road safety team, who decided that it would be clever to simulate what it would be like if I had been caught drink driving and had my driving licence taken off me… Which is all well and good but when you present a breakfast show that starts at 6am (baring in mind I have to be here to prep the show at least an hour before that), then you can hopefully agree that I was not being out of order by losing my sense of humour about the whole scenario!- I was banned from driving from Monday- Friday You can hear the moment they stormed the show and what happened by clicking here…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXTREtzWqKk&feature=g-upl I thought rather than bore on about how hard it was for the week , I would just post my 4 twitter messages up here so you could see what I was thinking and saying each day… No licence day 1: I forgot I wasn't allowed to drive when I woke up this morning, then my heart sank & now #ImACambridgeCyclist No licence day 2: Wet. This is getting a bit boring now, I think it's time to get my licence back... I had to bail out and call a taxi today No licence day 3: This morning I'm feeling knackered! Headache and itchy eyes from being so tired- one more day to go though.. I can do this No licence final day: A quick summary for you... errrr don't drink and drive because losing your licence is a huge pain in the Ar-erm Arm So in summary, it was a hard week which did a great job to highlight to people what life would be like without the car and I would like to thank every who sent in messages for support and sharing their comments about this, don’t drink and drive it is a head ache that will last a very long time after the day after a big sesh or Christmas party!
