Two men arrested in Cambridge rape investigation

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of the rape of a woman in Cambridge.

The female driver of a F1 car has been seriously hurt after a crash at the Duxford Imperial War Museum.

Emergency services were called to the airfield at 9.17am after a low speed collision between the car and a lorry.

Maria De Villota, who was driving the car for the Marusia team during a test event, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

MAGPAS and the East of England Ambulance Service were called to the scene to treat her.

EEAST spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "A woman has sustained life threatening injuries and following treatment at the scene by paramedics, she has been taken to Addenbrookes Hospital for further care."

The Magpas Helimedix say the woman suffered facial and head injuries. They say she was in a stable condition when she arrived at Addenbrooke's hospital.

At 3pm the Marusia team said:

"Since Maria’s arrival at the hospital at approximately 10.45hrs this morning, she has been receiving the best medical attention possible at the hospital, which is the region's major trauma centre. Maria is conscious and medical assessments are ongoing. The team will await the outcome of these assessments before providing further comment.

"The team's first priority at this time is Maria and her family."

A police spokesperson said that they have notified the Health and Safety Executive because the crash happened on private land.

The F1 car was taking part in a test day, which are regularly held at the museum.

IWM Duxford say testing has been suspended whilst team personnel and the medical services assess the situation. The museum is open as normal.
