Cambridgeshire firefighters came to the rescue of the olympic torch when it was in Cambridge on Saturday.
Two hours before the flame arrived, part of the route along Barnwell Road was flooded, which could have stopped the torchbearers running along the road.
Heavy rain that fell during the day on Saturday had caused localised flooding in parts of the city.
On Barnwell Road there was around 5 inches of water in one of the dips in the road which would have been difficult for the runners to get through.
Firefighters were called out at 4.50pm and used light portable pumping equipment to get rid of the water.
They returned to their fire station at 5.40pm, just 30 minutes before the torch arrived in the city.
