Gritting Cycleways in Cambridge

Eleven cycle bridges in Cambridge will be gritted by the county council this winter.
Last year they were criticised for not doing it but they've now pledged to make sure main routes are covered.
They're also going to see if city and district council workers like roadsweepers can grit the paths when it snows to help pedestrians.
Council bosses are also looking into new surfacing choices for cycleways and will use a different less corrosive rocksalt which will reduce the harm to bridge structures.
Last winter the county council used 15,000 tonnes of rocksalt on the roads which cost £1.8 million
