The Third Test between England and India at Edgbaston will go ahead as planned, despite concerns over rioting in some parts of Birmingham.

The teams held their pre-match net sessions and news conferences at the Warwickshire ground, as they prepare for the five-day match.

England captain Andrew Strauss said of the decision to play the Test, "All these things are determined by our security team or the authorities running the match.

"We have been given no indication that the game isn't going ahead, so it's right to prepare as we normally would."

India's captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, added: "Wherever you are, if things like this happen, it's sad.

"I don't think there's much we can do as individuals or cricketers, so we're sticking to what we can do - practising for the game."

The Warwickshire chief executive, Colin Povey, told Sky Sports News: "As things stand it's all systems go."

Match commander Inspector Howard Lewis Jones said: "A lot of planning and Preparation has gone into this event. We have worked very closely with the club
and police resources have been set accordingly. The Test match will not take away resources from policing the wider Birmingham area.

"West Midlands police recognise the importance of this event and the spectators will be looking forward to this match."

England are hoping to take top spot in the International Cricket Council Test rankings, which would come with a victory against the Indians in either of the two remaining matches in the series.
