The Nicola Emmerson Trust

The Charity, dedicated in our daughter's memory was formed in January 2009. Two years after Nicola died from a result of a Sudden Cardiac Death. Nicola did not die from too much alcohol or drugs, her heart simply stopped beating.

The Charity, will help to raise funds for Papworth Hospital, Electrophysiology Research Fund- Researching Sudden Cardiac Death in young people.
12 young people are dying each week from a Sudden Cardiac Death. Although the improved treatment of coronary disease has seen fabulous results and a decrease in the number of deaths resulting from heart attacks. However in the wake of these impressive impacts there are increased numbers of people presenting disturbances of the cardiac rhythm, and sudden cardiac death. Papworth's work is focused on this modern epidemic.
Their research characterizes the properties of the heart that provide the basis for arrhythmia conditions in which there is abnormal electrical activity in the heart. The heart beat may be too fast or too slow. Recent studies show that the numbers showing a clinical risk of a sudden cardiac death reside within the heart and much of this risk is generic. If they can read the code in the heart they can predict risk and protect those people who are at risk.
Papworth are therefore able to provide the means to identify patients who are at risk from A Sudden cardiac Death.
Our first aim is to kick start by raising £25,000 for Papworth Electrophsiology research fund -all future proceeds from donations and fundraising events will continue to be given to Papworth Hospital Electrophsiology research fund.
We have raised £10,000 in our first year, by holding local fundraising events. Just a few of our forthcoming events include, Saturday March 20th Charity Spring Ball, Sheene Mill, Melbourn. Sunday 9th May we are competing in Prague marathon, Friday July 9th Nicola Emmerson memorial Cup Golf day, with Barry White tribute act in evening. Friday 29th October Robbie Williams tribute, Royston Golf Club.
