East Cambridgeshire District Council are submitting plans for a multi million pound out of town Leisure centre on the edge of Ely.
Ely already has a central Leisure Centre which is leased until 2085 and it would be more cost effective if this site was developed and upgraded to meet the demands of the local population while increasing people entering the centre of Ely and supporting the local economy!
For the sake of our children we must keep the Leisure Centre in an easy to access, safe central location. Please sign the petition to keep the Leisure Centre in Ely in the centre of Ely http://www.gopetition.com/petition/42296.html

‘Through the Eye of the Collector: a rare glimpse of medieval glass from private collections’
The Stained Glass Museum is offering visitors the rare opportunity to take a peek into the world of stained glass collecting in an exciting new temporary exhibition, ‘Through the Eye of the Collector: a rare glimpse of medieval glass from private collections’.
The pieces, many of which have never been on public display before, come from the private collections of art dealers and stained glass collectors.
The exhibition includes religious and secular Medieval glass from 13th – 16th centuries. It gives visitors the chance to understand more about Medieval stained glass, learn what motivates collectors and discover the often humorous personal anecdotes that accompany many of the pieces.
Sarah Robertson, Curator said:
‘this is a wonderful exhibition. It offers visitors a very special chance to see some beautiful pieces that may never be on public display again. Not only does the glass have a place in the fascinating history of this art form, it also gives us a unique insight into the private and often secretive world of collecting. It really is an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed’.
The exhibition runs from Sunday 30th January – Friday 25th March 2011 in the Stained Glass Museum, Ely Cathedral. Tickets prices are £4.00 for adults and £3.00 for concessions and includes general museum entry.
Opening hours are 10.30-5.00pm (Mon-Sat) and 12 noon - 4.30 (Sun).
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue which can be ordered through the Museum.
For more information please call 01353 660347 or visit www.stainedglassmuseum.com.

With the winter setting in, the season of good will taking full hold, and the wet muddy roads
making your car look filthy, it’s great to know that you can kill several birds with one stone! Do
your bit for charity, have your car washed and keep warm at the same time.
On Sunday 6th December there will be a charity car wash in aid of Kidney Cancer UK
(www.kcuk.org) between 10am and 3pm. The wash will be held in the car park of Safebox Self
Storage on Coldhams Lane Cambridge (near the corner with Rosemary Lane).
The hoses and sponges will be manned by the teams from Safebox Self Storage, sister company
Safebox Document Storage and the Group’s Head Office. They will be charging £5.00 for each
car washed (though, of course, you can donate more if you like), and matching all donations
made to give a festive boost to the work of Kidney Cancer UK.
While you’re waiting you can enjoy a cup of tea and a mince pie, read a magazine and find out
more about the work of the charity in the centre’s reception.
